Founded in 2022, Animal Advocates International aims to improve the wellbeing and enhance the legal protection of non-human animals. They work to raise awareness about animal protection laws, litigate all cases involving animals, provide free legal assistance to achieve animal justice, and advocate for new and stronger animal protection policies. They also educate communities about effective methods to alleviate animal suffering.
Impact and achievements:
Raised animal welfare standards in Zimbabwe's poultry farming industry through ongoing awareness campaigns and training workshops for farmers, agricultural officers, veterinary officers, and community leaders
Educated 150 farmers, 7 agricultural officers, and 5 veterinary officers on the negative impacts of battery cage systems on chicken welfare and encouraged farmers to eliminate chicken suffering by transitioning to free range systems. Farmers have demonstrated interest and willingness to start free range programs.
Developed and distributed literature showing the negative impacts of battery cages and how to design free range systems
Educated farmers about animal welfare laws, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the provisions of the Act which criminalizes acts of animal cruelty
Met 5 government officials from different ministries who are willing to collaborate to accomplish their mission
Plans with additional funding:
Educate more farmers from other communities who are still using battery cage systems
Help farmers transition to free range systems by providing fencing materials
Help farmers start plant based projects and move away from animal agriculture to plant based agriculture
