LYDT works with young people in all 28 wards of Lupane District, raising their awareness about the importance for caring for and improving the welfare of farmed animals. They advise smallholder animal farmers on ideal housing conditions by incorporating ideal cultural practices and values. They also lobby against inhumane slaughtering methods of animals.

Impact and achievements:

  • To date, their lobbying for quality farmed animal shelters has benefited an estimated 100,000 caged broilers, 500 caged pigs, 5,000 goats and 1,000 sheep

  • Their six-month long farmed animal clinic program which they ran during the lockdown period in 2020 nursed about 500 wounded donkeys, 100 cattle and 200 dogs

Plans with additional funding:

  • Scale efforts on existing programs
