FAQs

What is your current fundraising goal?

We are aiming to fill a $200,000 funding gap for 2023 and 2024.

What will you do with this money?

At present, additional funding towards AAA will go towards offering improved versions of our service and scaling up to empower more African animal advocacy organisations.

Is Animal Advocacy Africa a registered charity?

Animal Advocacy Africa is a program of Credence Institute, which is a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO Reference #: 930068987) as set out in section 30(3) of the Income Tax Act No 58 of 1962 (the Act).

Credence Institute has been approved for purposes of section 18A(1)(a) of the Act and donations to the organisation will be tax-deductible in the hands of the donors in terms of and subject to the limitations prescribed in section 18A of the Act.

We are also operating through a fiscal sponsorship with Players Philanthropy Fund (Federal Tax ID: 27-6601178), a Maryland charitable trust with federal tax-exempt status as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Is my donation secure?

Absolutely. The security and confidentiality of your information is our highest priority. Our payment processor, PayPal, is PCI-compliant to ensure security. Additionally, PayPal runs automatic fraud screenings and monitors donations 24/7. We will not sell, trade or share your personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, and we will only share personal information if you have given us specific permission to do so.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Donations from the United States, United Kingdom, and South Africa are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Donations from other areas are accepted, but are not tax deductible at the moment.

Do I get a receipt?

A donation receipt will be sent to you at the email address you provide. Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes. If you make a recurring donation, we will email you a receipt each month when your gift is processed. Thank you.

I am interested in making a donation over $1,000 to Animal Advocacy Africa. What should I do?

You should reach out to us. This way, we can ensure that AAA is a good fit for you and fulfils your requirements. If so, we can assist you to make the donation via the most efficient avenue.

How cost-effective is a donation to Animal Advocacy Africa?

As we are a meta capacity-building project that helps animals indirectly and is in the early stages, cost-effectiveness is very difficult to ascertain and is an uncertainty that we are attempting to estimate more concretely as we grow.

Our cost-effectiveness will depend on the cost-effectiveness of organisations that we support. This will take into account expected welfare points gained, likelihood of intervention success, expected years of effect, total operational and organisational costs and total counterfactual costs.

We aim to evaluate our cost-effectiveness periodically and plan to share our impact and achievements on our website.

What are the best arguments against donating to Animal Advocacy Africa?

We think one of the strongest arguments against our work is the experimental nature of it: the animal advocacy movement in Africa is in its infancy, funding is overwhelmingly limited and there is a lack of organisations dedicated to improving the effectiveness of animal advocacy organisations in Africa. However, we see opportunity for high leverage in setting the trajectory of the nascent effective animal advocacy movement in Africa and we aim to reliably demonstrate our impact. We believe AAA should best be thought of as a higher-risk, higher-reward donation opportunity.

I have a problem with a donation, or I have another question not discussed here and would like more information.

Please email us. We are happy to assist or answer any questions you might have.
